Release Date:
Sun, 02/13/2011

On the 11th of February 2011, at approximately 8:28 PM, the Hermiston Police Department took a 14 year old female from Umatilla into custody during the course of an investigation of graffiti located inside a dugout at Newport Park.  The female was questioned and eventually charged with Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree, Unlawfully Applying Graffiti, and Unlawfully Possessing Graffiti Implement.  The juvenile was eventually released to the custody of her father, Margarito P. Lopez of 1001 Carolina Road, Umatilla.

On the 12th of February 2011, at approximately 3:00 AM, the Hermiston Police Department took a 13 year old male into custody for curfew violation.  During the course of the investigation, a cooperative parent (Douglas R. Young of 1005 SW 9th Place, Hermiston) showed the officer some writings the youth had been displaying in his residence.  Further investigation led to several areas in an alley way located between the 800 blocks of W. Johns Ave. and W. Division Ave. as having been marked with the same graffiti.  The youth was ultimately charged with Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree, Unlawfully Applying Graffiti, and Curfew.

“Both of these cases show the importance our department places on solving criminal acts that impact the beauty of our city.” reports Lt. Jason Edmiston
