Hermiston Police News Release - Suspect taken into custody
On the 16th of January 2011, at approximately 8:15 AM, Officer Chris Martin contacted Charles Brian Barker 38 years of age, a transient of Hermiston, in the area of NE McNary Ave. and E. Cherry Ave. Barker was on foot and Officer Martin was aware of a current detainer warrant issued by Umatilla County Parole and Probation for the apprehension of Barker.
Barker was taken into custody without incident. Barker was found to be in possession of several watches of which he claimed he had just found. A short time later (9:06AM), officers responded to Peachy Keene located at 176 W Hermiston Avenue after having received a report of the front window being broken out.
Officers contacted the owners and verified the business had been burglarized and several watches had been stolen. The property found on Barker was identified and returned to the owners of the business.
Barker was processed at the Hermiston Police Department and later lodged at the Umatilla County Jail in Pendleton on the detention warrant as well as Burglary in the Second Degree, Theft in the Second Degree, and Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree.
“Over the years, our agency has had extensive contact with Mr. Barker. It is extremely unfortunate our citizens are subjected to a person out on the streets committing these types of crimes over and over again," reports Lt. Jason Edmiston.
