Release Date:
09/12/2011

On the 11th of September 2011, at approximately 10:50 AM, officers of the Hermiston Police Department responded to the vacant lot on the southeast corner of W Orchard Ave and S. 1st Street on a report of a suspicious device found on the ground.

Officers secured the scene and requested the assistance of the Oregon State Police Bomb Squad.  OSP responded within minutes and was able to safely destroy the device made from PVC piping.  Evidence collected will be sent to the crime lab for analysis.

Traffic was impacted for approximately 2 hours due to the necessity to limit flow in the immediate area.  The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office assisted with traffic during this time span.
