Obstructing Streets and Sidewalks - Portable Basketball Hoops
The season is arriving in which the Hermiston Police Department receives more inquiries and complaints regarding the placement of portable basketball hoops. In an effort to keep our community members informed of city ordinance, the following information is provided. Avoid fines and get informed.
The Hermiston City Code addresses these issues specifically in section 94.07 as follows:
§ 94.07 Obstructing Streets and Sidewalks It shall be unlawful for any person or persons to gather or to stand upon any sidewalk or street so as to prevent, interrupt or obstruct the travel or free passage over the same by the public, or to place or deposit any article which has the same effect. This section does not apply when specific permission has been granted by the city to do so. (Ord. 1976, passed 10-26-98) Penalty, see § 94.99 ")
Please be courteous and considerate to your neighbors and the driving public when considering the placement of your portable basketball hoops or consider using one of the many parks and recreation areas in our city.
If you have any questions about this or other ordinances, please contact Code Enforcement Officer Kelly Parsons at the Hermiston Police Department, 541-667-5030.
