The members of the City Council are pleased to share with the citizens of Hermiston what we feel is some very good news.

After looking at our municipal water needs and the best way to disperse that water to the various areas within the community Roy Bicknell our Water Superintendent working with Kennedy Jenks Consultants has developed a plan to increase water capacity to the residents while at the same time freeing capacity from the southern commercial industrial area of the city.

As Jackie Myers, Council President said.... ARoy really led the way on this one, he leads a team of really devoted employees and they have come up with a plan that should benefit the citizens for many years to come.@

At the Monday November 28th meeting the council approved the award of a bid to Wellens Farwell, Inc for the City of Hermiston Well No. 5 improvement Project.  This project will increase the capacity of Well #5 from 3,000 to 4000 gallons per minute.  This will substantially increase our supply to North, East and West quadrants of the City while eliminating the need to draw from Well #6 in the South section of town that serves a large portion of the commercial industrial inventory of land for Hermiston as well as allow us to serve the proposed Eastern Oregon Trade and Event Center.

We feel that this will have long term benefits for economic development and job creation in the future.
