Business Advisory Committee Sets Mission

Release Date:

The newest advisory committee to the Hermiston City Council has established a mission to expand and improve the long-term health of the city’s economy.  The Hermiston Business Advisory Committee adopted an action-oriented mission statement at its first meeting Thursday.

The mission of the City of Hermiston Business Advisory Committee is to build a climate conducive to improving and expanding economic opportunities in Hermiston by listening to issues relating to business development, expansion, and retention, and making recommendations for action to the Hermiston City Council that emphasize the long-term overall health of Hermiston’s economy.

It’s important that the Business Advisory Committee not just become an onerous committee, City Council Member George Anderson told committee members.

“You are to provide assistance and input to the council and staff when large issues come up,” Anderson said.  “We won’t be focusing on the small things.”

But the Business Advisory Committee creates the venue to discuss the smaller issues that have potential to make a large impact on Hermiston’s business community, said Committee Member Debbie Pedro.

“It provides another outlet for people to bring these issues up that may not be fully ready for the City Council to consider,” Pedro said.

One of the first major issues that the committee will assist on is offering input on the potential for an Urban Renewal District in downtown Hermiston.
