City of Hermiston Makes Information More Accessible with Social Media

Everyone has done it when staring down the barrel of endless paragraphs of legalese, technical jargon, or bureaucratic gibberish; skim a sentence or two and move on. Just because the information is presented as a giant mass of black and white doesn’t make it any less important, but the temptation to skim is often too great. Many times, all it takes is an access point to direct you down the right path to understanding complex and important issues. That’s where www.facebook.com/cityofhermiston comes in.

The City of Hermiston has launched an official Facebook page to create another access point for residents to get the important information they need in an easy to understand format. Residents who, "like," the City of Hermiston on Facebook will periodically see short summaries of issues that directly affect them pop up in their Facebook, "newsfeeds." Those who want to learn more will be able to follow links to concise summaries of the issue in the "news" section of www.hermiston.or.us.

In addition to creating a more accessible city government, www.facebook.com/cityofhermiston creates the ability to receive important emergency updates that otherwise may have been missed. Users who check Facebook on a regular basis may see notices from the City of Hermiston about temporary street closures, utility service disruptions, and other emergency messages that they otherwise would have had to seek out on their own.

Residents interested in following City of Hermiston news on Facebook can visit www.facebook.com/cityofhermiston, login, and click, "like," or simply search, "City of Hermiston," in the Facebook search bar.
