City Launches New-Look Website

Release Date:

The City of Hermiston wants more residents to have easier access to information about the city.  One way to make that possible has been a simple re-design of the city’s website www.hermiston.or.us.

In addition to a cleaner, more modern look, site visitors should find it easier to locate the information and services they want.  The new site moves all of the navigation elements from a column along the left-hand side of the page to a row of drop-down tabs which are always present along the top of the page.  This design change not only reduces clutter on the site, but allows for more relevant and current information to be posted along the left-hand column, which was previously occupied by a static list.

The freed-up space on the page reduces the amount of scrolling that site visitors have to do to find the information they need.  The new layout will allow each page to be more flexible by maintaining important content in one location, while allowing individual departments to continually update links to more timely and usable content.

“It’s no surprise that residents are going to the web more often to find out information about issues affecting their city services,” Hermiston City Manager Ed Brookshier said.  “Bringing our website up to a functional level where residents can more easily locate that information will hopefully mean more people will come to the site to find out about their city and how various city programs and services affect them.”

The City also plans to continue its efforts at using social media to keep residents informed of City business.  www.facebook.com/cityofhermiston will continue to serve as a supporting informational tool of www.hermiston.or.us.
