City Seeks Input on Retail Climate

Release Date:
09/21/2012

You don’t know until you ask.  The City of Hermiston wants to know what issues are facing its continually growing community of retail businesses.  That’s why Hermiston retail business owners and managers can expect to see a survey come in the mail the week of Sept. 24 – 28.

The information received from the retail business survey will provide key insights into the overall retail business climate in Hermiston.  When all of the information is collected, the respondents will be asked to help city staff decipher what it means and offer their insights into how to carry that information forward into action.  This will take the form of a focus-group, made up of the respondents, analyzing the responses received.  The recently formed Business Advisory Committee will then make final recommendations to city staff and the City Council on potential policy changes aimed at improving Hermiston’s retail business climate.

The retail business survey will be part of a larger emphasis on business retention and expansion of existing businesses.  Following the retail business survey, the City of Hermiston, and the Business Advisory Committee will survey other sectors of the local economy to identify potential issues facing them as well, in an ongoing effort to help grow Hermiston’s existing commercial base.
