A comparison of commercial water and sewer rates presented to City Council Members Monday shows that Hermiston users pay substantially less than their counterparts in other similar-sized Eastern Oregon cities.

The comparison identified eight general commercial classes of water and sewer users.  The study then used real usage figures from Hermiston businesses and applied them through the billing structures of the five cities in eastern Oregon with the closest population sizes.  The result showed that seven of the eight business classes would experience the cheapest combined water and sewer bill in Hermiston

“These rates aren’t just the result of dumb luck,” said City Councilor George Anderson, “they’re the result of good management by our city managers and long-range planning by our councilors.”

The full-service restaurant in the study would save $2,004 per year in Hermiston compared to the next-cheapest city.  The quick-service restaurant would save $976 in Hermiston.  The big-box retailer would save $2,185 in Hermiston.  The general office-type business in the study would save $238.  The full-service grocery store would save $2,638 in Hermiston.
