Hermiston Police News - Business owner assists police

Release Date:
08/04/2011

Approximately 30 days ago the Hermiston Police Department was contacted by a concerned business owner reporting suspicious activity (possibly drug related) taking place in and around the area of SW 11th Street and W Orchard Avenue. Members of this agency increased their patrols of that area looking for this reported activity.

On the 3rd of August 2011 at approximately 5:38 PM, officers of the Hermiston Police Department responded to the area in and around the Foxwood Apartments on a report of a Hispanic male acting very suspicious in the parking lot area. The male fled on foot just prior to officer arrival.

Photo: EvidenceA canvass of the entire area resulted in officers locating several items reported to have been tossed into a garbage can of a business by the male. Officers located several packages of white crystal substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine. In all, officers recovered 2,133 grams or 4.7 pounds of methamphetamine with a street value estimate of $82,250.

Nothing further is available at this time as the investigation continues with a couple leads being pursued.

This is a classic example of a local business owner trying to better the community by working with the police department and providing valuable information. Our agency currently has 23 commissioned officers. It is always better to have 16,745 sets of eyes willing to report suspicious activity taking place," says Lt. Jason Edmiston
