Hermiston Police News: Citizen's report leads to arrest of repeat offender

On the 30th of April 2012, at approximately 4:20 AM, an alert citizen called the Hermiston Police Department to report a suspicious male in the area of the 1800 block of NE North Street.  Officers arrived and canvassed the neighborhood.  Officers located Charles Cass Cooley, 33 years of age, of 1790 NE North Street, inside the residence at 1860 NE North Street.

Photo: Charles Cass CooleyCooley was detained while the property owner was notified.  Cooley was eventually charged with Burglary in the First Degree due to unlawfully being inside the residence and Theft in the Third Degree for being in possession of property that did not belong to him. Cooley was processed at the Hermiston Police Department before being lodged at the Umatilla County Jail in Pendleton.  Cooley was placed in the dedicated jail bed currently rented by the City of Hermiston.

“This is a great example of an alert citizen seeing something they did not believe was right and having the confidence in our department to call us. Mr. Cooley is well known to this agency as this marks his 30th arrest and 51st charge by the Hermiston Police Department,” says Acting Chief Jason Edmiston
