Hermiston Police News: Felon Arrested with Firearm

Release Date:
09/09/2013

On the 8th of September 2013, at approximately 1:55 PM, members of the Hermiston Police Department responded to 1735 NE 2nd Street after one of our officers located a stolen vehicle at this residence.  The vehicle had been reported stolen by the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office.

Officers spoke with people at the property and ultimately arrested “Kit” Michael Gibson, 36 years of age, of 1750 NE North Street, Hermiston, on (1) count of Possession of a Weapon by a Felon.  Officers also seized a .40 caliber H&K handgun.  Gibson was processed at the Hermiston Police Department and later lodged at the Umatilla County Jail.

Officers also arrested Christopher S. Nelsen, 35 years of age, of 1735 NE 2nd Street, Hermiston, on (2) arrest warrants issued out of Benton County, Washington.  Nelsen was later lodged at the Umatilla County Jail by a Umatilla County patrol deputy.

Once again this residence where just 2 weeks ago we found stolen vehicles being dismantled; continues to be a magnet for those who choose to engage in illegal activities.  As this location is just outside our jurisdiction, we will continue to work with the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office on getting the property abated.

"This is the second time in the last 18 months this agency has arrested Mr. Gibson for unlawfully possessing a firearm," states Chief of Police Jason Edmiston.
