08/08/2013

On the 6th of August 2013, at approximately 3:35 PM, members of the Hermiston Police Department were dispatched to the area of North 1st Place and W. Geer Road on a report of a small child operating a motorcycle in/around the train tracks.  Officers arrived in the area of North 1st Place and W. Elm Ave and attempted to contact what appeared to be an adult male and a juvenile male both on motorcycles on Union Pacific Railroad property.

As soon as the officer turned on the overhead lights to the patrol vehicle, the duo fled southbound and then west across North 1st Place.  Officers witnessed the juvenile crash his motorcycle a short distance away in the driveway of 697 NW 3rd Ave where he lives, while the adult father identified as Gregory A. White, 28 years of age of 32392 W. Columbia Ln., Hermiston, continued to flee at a high rate of speed.

Officers took the 6 year old male into protective custody and later released him to his mother who returned to the residence after having been at work.  Officers have spoken with Mr. White on the phone, but he refuses to meet with us for fear of going to jail.
