Hermiston Police News Release - Suspect of food theft, arrested and charged.

On the 29th of May 2011, at approximately 5PM, the Hermiston Police Department received a call for service from Chen’s Restaurant.  Chen’s employees advised a white male wearing a white shirt with blue jeans riding a bicycle, had fled the establishment without paying for $16.80 worth of food.

While en route, Officer Jimmy Allen observed Dylan L. Russell, 18 years of age of 112 John Day Street, Umatilla, riding a bicycle a short distance away and matching the description given by Chen’s.  Officer Allen also noticed Russell had a plastic bag with a Styrofoam food storage box.  Russell who had a $40,000 arrest warrant for Failure to Appear Theft in the First Degree, was contacted and taken into custody.

Russell was interviewed about his involvement with the theft of food from Chen’s and later charged with Theft in the Third Degree and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  Russell was lodged at the Umatilla County Jail in Pendleton.

A fortune paper found on Russell’s person and reading “Now is a good time to try something new.” was seized as evidence.
