HPD News: Vandal arrested; weekend accident report

On the 11th of December 2011, at approximately 12:05 AM, a 17 year old male formerly residing at 345 E Dogwood Ave #B, Hermiston, was taken into custody for having just been involved in the unlawful application of graffiti at View Crest Apartments located at 525 SW 13th Place in Hermiston.

The 17 year old had a detention warrant for his arrest issued by the Oregon Youth Authority due to having absconded from their custody.

The 17 year old was being sought by officers of the Hermiston Police Department for questioning into vandalism that took place at the Hermiston Public Library and several other locations on the 8th of December.

In all the 17 year old was charged with:

  • (6) counts of Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree
  • (6) counts of Unlawful Application of Graffiti
  • (1) count of Unlawful Possession of a Graffiti Implement

The male was lodged at the juvenile detention facility in Pendleton.  The parents of the male were not cited for Failure to Supervise a Child due to the Oregon Youth Authority having control/custody of the child.


The Hermiston Police Department Dispatch Center fielded numerous 911 calls during the day shift (5AM – 1PM) regarding crashes due to the weather.  In all, approximately 25 crashes were reported on Interstate 84, Interstate 82, and Highway 730.

The extent of injuries is not known at this time.
