Funland Playground

The Hermiston Parks & Recreation Department, along with incredible support from our Community, has built one of the largest, most engaging and inclusive playgrounds in the Northwest. The new Funland Playground, a “destination attraction,” will has three zones including Wild West, Adventure, and Farmland along with a locomotive, wagon train, stage coach, pirate ship with a Kraken sea monster, a barn and silo with giant slides, giant fruit and vegetables, and, of course, a 6-foot watermelon slice.

Funland is a thrilling place for play, education and engagement for children of all ages and abilities. Many of the features are specifically designed for children with ability challenges. Funland is constructed with the most durable and vandal resistant materials available and includes the new Rotary Picnic Shelter, refurbished Kiwanis Picnic Shelter, restroom facilities and concession stand. The playground held a Grand Re-Opening Celebration on July 4, 2021.

This playground would not be possible without the donations and sponsorships from our community members and local businesses. Every dollar raised for this playground goes back into the livability of Hermiston and future generations!

FUNLAND PLAYGROUND RULES

Open Hours: Dawn to Dusk (Closed at Dark)

Please do not:

  • Bring sticky foods or drinks on to the play surface
  • Bring your pets on to the play surface. (Children need their space to be active and excited which may over-excite your animal)
  • Alter, remove or be overly aggressive with the play equipment
  • Use your scooter, skates, skateboard, long board or any other wheeled object on the play surface

Security

The playground has a network of security cameras that record all areas of the park 24/7. The police department has access to these cameras and receives motion alerts after hours. The lights that come on after dark are security lights but are not intended for continued play because they cast significant shadows which can create a tripping hazard.

We are on schedule to get perimeter fencing installed this spring as part of the park’s final phase. We want Funland to be open and inviting for the whole community, but also take its security seriously.
If you have concerns about park equipment, safety or security, please call 541-667-5018 or email parksandrec@hermiston.or.us.
