The City of Hermiston has partnered with RDO Equipment for several years to chip up the pile of Christmas Trees collected from Hermiston residents.  “We appreciate our customers and we like giving back to our community” states Luke Norenberg Service Manage of Hermiston RDO.  “Our employees love these community projects.”

The City collects the trees through the month of January at Butte Park next to the Sprayground.  This year there was a pile of over 200 trees that takes about 2 hours to chip into mulch.  The City Park and Recreation Department uses the mulch in the parks planter beds to reduce weeds and help keep moisture in the ground.   The recycled trees add nutrients back into the soil.  Weeds do not like the acidic pine needles making the much a very effective weed barrier.

RDO’s Reinie Fisher has coordinated the tree chipping for several years.  “It’s a good way to demonstrate the Vermeer chipper’s capability.  This machine really makes quick work of the tree pile.”

City Parks employee, Ruperto Garcia states “We just couldn’t do this tree recycle program without the help of RDO Equipment.  This help keep the trees out of landfills.”
