City Seeks Members for Community Enhancement Committee

Release Date:

The City of Hermiston is seeking interested community members to help enhance the visual appeal and overall livability of Hermiston.  Interested residents are asked to apply at City Hall by March 27, 2014, and the City Council will select five committee members.

The Community Enhancement Committee will be a limited committee with a focus on accomplishing six projects as directed from the City Council.  Committee members will be expected to offer recommendations to the Mayor & Council on the various projects, assist in public outreach and coordination with community groups, work with other city committees, and assist staff as needed in the general execution of the projects.  Because of the focused nature of the committee, the terms of the community representatives will be up to three years, but the group may be disbanded earlier if all projects are accomplished.

The list of projects and programs which the Council has directed the committee to work on are:

1.      Organizing and executing an annual volunteer community clean-up event.

2.      Examination and recommendations for possible landscape requirements.

3.      Development of a public-space landscape/beautification plan.

4.      Development of a Public Art Plan.

5.      Examination of possible solutions regarding abandoned signs.

6.      Examination of existing nuisance abatement procedures.
