Hermiston Police News: Juvenile charged with numerous incidents of graffiti

Release Date:
04/03/2014

Numerous officers of the Hermiston Police Department worked in conjunction with identifying a 14 year old male as the person responsible for two recent rashes of vandalism via graffiti.  Officer Mike Ellwood and Training Officer Doug Gill were once again the lead officers in compiling information and identifying the responsible male.

The mother of the male, Maria J. Torres, 41 years of age, of 1210 W. Ridgeway Ave, Hermiston, was charged with (2) counts of Failure to Supervise a Child.

The male was charged with (2) counts of Criminal Mischief in the First Degree, (2) counts of Criminal Conspiracy, and (8) counts of Unlawful Application of Graffiti before being lodged at the juvenile detention facility in Pendleton.

It is estimated several thousand dollars in damage/clean-up efforts was caused by this youth.

“This spree over the course of 2 weekends impacted numerous businesses in Hermiston.  The intent and rationale behind having a zero tolerance stance on graffiti specific to the parents, is intended to hold them directly (and financially through the courts) responsible for the damage caused.”, reported Chief Jason Edmiston.
