Hermiston Police News: Man Arrested for Assault in Stabbing

Release Date:

On the 17th of March 2016, at approximately 11:05AM, Hermiston officers responded to 1100 W Sunland Ave on a report of a domestic disturbance where one person was possibly stabbed.  Officers arrived and Hermiston Fire and Emergency Services medics tended to a 41 year old female victim with a wound to her neck area.

Officers canvassed the neighborhood and within minutes, located and detained Richard D. Heathman 32 years of age of that address.  Heathman was extremely aggressive and non-compliant with officers so he was transported directly to the jail in Pendleton.  While en route, Heathman was able to move his hands to the front of his body allowing him to cause significant damage to the patrol vehicle.  Heathman attempted to choke the transporting officer with their seatbelt so the Oregon State Police responded to the transporting officer’s location and helped secure Heathman further.

The female victim was sent to Portland via Life Flight for treatment though the injury did not appear to be life-threatening.

At the time of this release, the exact charges for Heathman have not been filed yet, but he will likely be facing assault and vandalism charges.
