Hermiston Mayor Dave Drotzmann received the 2023 Oregon Mayors Association (OMA) Mayors Leadership Award for Large Cities at Monday’s City Council meeting.

The award is given annually by the statewide association representing cities of all sizes to recognize leadership, involvement in community issues, and facilitating productive relationships between the city and its employees. Rod Cross, Toledo mayor and OMA president-elect, attended the council meeting to give the award to Drotzmann.

“When we meet on whatever the issue are, whether it’s a statewide issue or how we’re handling things locally, (Drotzmann) represents Hermiston very well,” said Cross at the meeting, following comments about Hermiston’s positive growth of the last few decades.

Drotzmann was first elected Hermiston mayor in 2010 after serving two terms on the Hermiston School District Board of Directors. He has been an integral part in Hermiston’s development in that time, helping build community support for the Eastern Oregon Trade & Event Center, Funland Playground rebuild, and Kennison Field at Hermiston High School.

He has also been part of public events like Christmas Express and I Love My City service day projects, and is currently involved on the state-wide level as the president-elect of the League of Oregon Cities.
