Fire Watch Observer - Temporary Position

The City of Hermiston is currently accepting applications for a Fire Watch Observer.  This is a temporary position, expected duration is approximately 2-4 weeks (up to 40 hours/week, includes days, evenings and weekends), and wage is $12.00 per hour.  

Responsibilities Include:

  • Constantly patrolling all rooms of existing structures where fire suppression systems are temporarily shut down. All rooms must be patrolled every half hour while persons are present in the building.
  • Maintaining vigilance of potential fires.
  • Being familiar with procedures and facilities for sounding an alarm in the event of a fire.
  • Understanding of how to contact emergency services.
  • Never leaving the premises while persons are present in the building.
  • Filling out and submitting basic observation forms.

Must have a proven background showing good work ethic, punctuality, reliable attendance and must be able to communicate effectively and deal tactfully with the general public.  Must be able to start employment the week of February 14, 2022.

This position requires a high school diploma or equivalency.
