Our Mission
To provide to the public, in a friendly and courteous manner, timely access to information, and exposure to cultural events, for the purpose of learning, self-development, or life enhancement.
The Basics
Hermiston Public Library is located on Gladys Avenue. The library provides access to information, educational and recreational resources through programs, services, videos, microform, periodicals, newspaper and an ever expanding book and e-book collection.
Hermiston Public Library is a member of the Sage Library System, a consortium of over 70 libraries that share and display their holdings on the Evergreen system. Over one million books and materials are available through this system. Hermiston Public Library houses 34,000 books, nearly 700 large print books, 100 microfilms, 600 books on CD, over 900 videos and 4,317 periodicals.
A small Spanish-language library is maintained within Hermiston Public Library. Over 200 Spanish language books are available for checkout. In addition there are some Spanish-language videos.
Volunteers
Approximately 130 hours of volunteer work are donated each month. Hermiston Public Library relies on the generosity of these fine women and men to keep things moving in the library.

Friends of the Library
Hermiston Public Library has an active friends group. If you are interested in more information about what they do for the library or how you can become a member call or stop by the library anytime. You are also welcome to attend their quarterly 6:00 p.m. meeting held at the library every third Wednesday of February, May, August, and November.
Collections
Archives
Hermiston is a young community. Incorporated in 1906, Hermiston's growth has been steady. It is the intent of the library to preserve documents relating to local and county history as well as books and other materials which reflect cultural and historical values.
Although both visitors and residents inquire about our community history, there is little available in published form. In an effort to preserve local history, this library seeks contributions and preserves donations of high school annuals and manuscript biographies of early settlers and their families.

The library maintains the following historical, census information on microfilm:
- 1870 Census: Umatilla, Union, Wasco, Washington and Yamhill Counties
- 1880 Census: Umatilla, Union, Wasco, Washington and Yamhill Counties
- 1900 Census: Umatilla, Union and Wallowa Counties
- 1910 Census: Multnomah (part), Sherman and Umatilla Counties
- 1920 Census: Sherman, Tillamook, Wasco and Umatilla Counties
- 1870 and 1880 Mortality Schedules for the State of Oregon
