Downtown Facade Grant Applications Now Available

The Hermiston Urban Renewal Agency is now accepting applications for its Façade Grant Program.  The grants will award matching funds up to 50% of improvement costs up to a maximum of $10,000 for exterior work which improves the appearance of downtown properties.  Guidelines and applications for the program are available at


Final Proposed City/HURA Budgets Available

The final proposed budgets for the City of Hermiston and the Hermiston Urban Renewal Agencies for Fiscal Year 2014-15 are now available HERE.

The City Council and the Hermiston Urban Renewal Agency Board will consider the proposed budgets at their meetings beginning at 7:00 p.m. June 9, 2014 at Hermiston City Hall, 180 NE 2nd St.

Council Names Four City Manager Finalists

The Hermiston City Council has named four finalists to replace City Manager Ed Brookshier when he retires later this year.  The finalists will be in Hermiston for a public reception the evening of June 19 and go through finalist interviews on June 20.

Council to Begin Modernizing Charter

Release Date: 

The Hermiston City Council agreed Monday night that the current City Charter, which is nearly 60 years old, is long overdue for an update.  The Council agreed to begin working with the law firm of Beery, Elsner, & Hammond to clean up the city government’s foundational document.

The City Council will begin meeting as a group in the coming months to hear recommendations from each other, city staff, legal counsel, and community members about changes to the Charter.  Any final changes to the City Charter will have to be approved by the voters of the City.

The City of Hermiston’s proposed budget for fiscal year 2014-15 is available for review on the city’s website.  The Hermiston Urban Renewal Agency’s proposed budget for fiscal year 2014-15 is also available on the city’s website.

Council Supports EOTEC Site Plan

The Hermiston City Council unanimously supported the proposed site plan for the Eastern Oregon Trade and Event Center (EOTEC) Tuesday night.  The support came after the Umatilla County Commissioners issued their support earlier in the day.  The EOTEC Authority Board will now consider the site plan at its next meeting on April 25.  Site plans are available on the City of Hermiston website at

Special Council Meeting on EOTEC

There will be a Special Meeting of the Hermiston City Council at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22 at City Hall. This is an informational meeting only to hear a presentation from the Frew Development Group on the proposed site plan for the Eastern Oregon Trade & Event Center (EOTEC) project.

City Adopts Supplemental Budget

The Hermiston City Council adopted a supplemental budget Monday night which increases the FY ’13-’14 budget by $894,350, or 1.8%.

The city makes supplements to the budget every year to accommodate for increases in expenses or revenue which weren’t anticipated before the original document was adopted.

City Seeks Members for Community Enhancement Committee

The City of Hermiston is seeking interested community members to help enhance the visual appeal and overall livability of Hermiston.  Interested residents are asked to apply at City Hall by March 27, 2014, and the City Council will select five committee members.

Council Bans Marijuana Dispensaries

The Hermiston City Council voted unanimously Monday night to ban medical marijuana dispensaries from operating within the city.  The ordinance takes effect immediately.
